Is there a problem at this moment?
Our minds are not only good at solving problems, but even better at generating them. In addition, the mind not only generates solvable problems, but also many unsolvable ones, commonly called worries.
As Mark Twain so aptly put it:
"I have had many worries in my life, most of which have never materialized."
The question I ask myself is: How can I stop my mind from constantly generating new and often unsolvable problems that often produce discomfort or suffering?
In principle, it is about being able to step out of the problem-oriented mode of our mind. This "work" has a lot to do with the balance between doing and being, which has been on my mind for some time now.
On a neural level, it's about balancing the overactive areas that are busy creating cognitive problems, particularly the left, interpretive hemisphere, with the perceptive, holistic parts of the right hemisphere.
If we take a closer look, we realize that problems cannot exist without the concept of time. It takes the "illusion" of past and future, of how something in the past is valued and how I would like it to be different in the future, for a problem to arise. If we are fully present with our mind in the here and now, there is no problem. There are pleasant or unpleasant experiences, needs or desires, but no problems. Does that sound too simple? Try it out. What problem do you have right now, in this moment?
